One more step towards banning pavement parking

On the 29th April, the English Devolution and Community Empowerment bill gained royal assent. The legislation will empower local authorities to prohibit pavement parking and for this to be enforced by civil enforcement officers. The legislation is long overdue and will help to bring other parts of England in line with London, where pavement parking has been banned since the 1970s.

It will take time for councils to start to use their new powers and to consider where exemptions will need to be made (for example where the road is too narrow for motorists not to pavement park). We will be watching closely for when pavement parking bans will be rolled out in Greater Manchester.
